How do I BUILD a photo gallery and link it to a page?
Example: Build a President's Day photo gallery then, link it to the Events page.

Note: This page can also be built by copying an existing page.

  1. Login to Contribute
  2. On the Contribute Start page, go to 'Begin editing my websites', then click on SMA :: Home : Welcome
  3. On the main menu, click on File > New Page
  4. In the Template folder, select 'site-pages-gallery'
  5. In the Page title textbox, enter 'President's Day'
  6. Click on OK, when done

We now have a photo gallery template. However, the color scheme of the President's Day photo gallery does not match the color scheme of Events. Since, we will be linking the President's Day photo gallery with Events, the color scheme needs to match.

To change the color scheme, follow these steps:

  1. Click on template properties
  2. Click on site_section from the list
  3. In the site_section textbox, enter 'events'
  4. Click on OK, when done

    The page finally has the Events color scheme. We can now continue building the President's Day photo gallery. Note: The color scheme can be applied to the page at anytime.

  5. Add subnavigation Links

    Note: Click on the '+' to add another subnavigation Link; '-' to remove an extra Sauna Link; 'down arrow' or 'up arrow' to reorder the list.

    To find out what Sauna Links should display on this photo gallery page, follow these steps:
    1. Launch an Internet Browser
    2. Go to SMA website at http://web.mit.edu/sma
    3. View an Events page and jot down its subnavigation links

    By performing these steps, I find that an Events page has 7 Sauna Links:
    1. Current
    2. All
    3. Outreach
    4. Seminars
    5. Special
    6. Summer
    7. Symposiums

  6. Add breadcrumb links

    Note: Click on the '+' to add another breadcrumb link; '-' to remove an extra breadcrumb link; 'down arrow' or 'up arrow' to reorder the list.

    To find out what you should include in the bread crumb links, follow these steps:
    1. Launch your internet browser (IE or Netscape)
    2. Go to the SMA website at http://web.mit.edu/sma
    3. View an Events page and jot down its breadcrumb links

    By performing these steps, I find that an Events page should have the following breadcrumb links:

    SMA >> Events >> [New Page]

    I also noted that 'SMA' is a link, 'Events' is a link', and the current page is not a link.

  7. Convert breadcrumb text into links

To convert 'Events' into a link, follow these steps:

  1. Highlight 'Events'
  2. On the main menu area, click on Link > select Browse to Web Page
  3. If Browse to Web Page is not selected, select it. Then, click on Browse
  4. Click on Events
  5. Click on OK, when done
  6. Add items to More Info if needed and convert these items into links
  7. Delete any text that does not pertain to the President's Day photo gallery and type in the appropriate text
  8. Insert the images and enter a caption for each image (if you have one)
  9. Click on Publish, when done

The President's Day photo gallery is now built. However, we need to link it to the Events page so that people who visit the Events page can now view the photo gallery.

To create a link between the Events page and the President's Day photo gallery, follow these steps:

  1. Click on Events
  2. Click on Edit Page
  3. Under More Info, add President's Day Photos bullet
  4. Convert President's Day Photos bullet into a link
  5. Click on Publish, when done
