Potential Pitfall

Responses to our first "Problems, Pitfalls, Booby Traps, and Surprises in Teaching" have been … well … non existent. If you remember, we sketched a scenario in which the instructor in a large lecture class was faced with students who were sleeping, eating, reading the newspaper, etc., and we asked for advice on how to handle that problem. Unless MIT students have taken a sudden turn for the better, we know this happens, and that there are those of you who handle it very effectively.
