How to conserve

Every little bit helps
Nobody likes to go on a diet because it requires effort and behavioral change. And who likes change? But, what if there was no food? Or water? Think it can’t happen? Think again. Today Americans are generating waste products faster than nature can break them down and we’re using up resources faster than they can be replaced.

Does change have to be difficult? Not if you start with small things. Try shutting off the lights when you leave a room. That’s easy. What else can you do?

Reduce waste:

  • Buy less stuff
  • When you do buy something, go for products with less packaging
  • Stop throwing things out
  • Donate to a charity or give the item to a friend

Save energy:

  • Turn off the TV when no one is watching
  • In the hot weather, use the AC only when you need it
  • Too cold? Put on a hat. We lose much of our body heat through our heads
  • Shower with a friend. Just make sure it’s someone you know well

Ride green:

  • Don’t take the car everywhere. Walk instead of driving if you can
  • Take public transportation
  • Slow down. A car uses more gas when you drive fast
  • Car pool with your neighbors or colleagues

Waste and the overuse of resources affect everything from the health of children to the availability of raw materials. Take a small step and do something every day to reduce waste and conserve energy.
