Date: 02/20/09 Speaker: Dr. G. Weymouth Title: Machine Learning Applications to Ocean Engineering Problems Abstract: The design and application of inductive algorithms is the hallmark of Machine Learning research. These algorithms attempt to "learn" the underlying cause of supplied example data. Applications for such algorithms range from preventing credit card fraud to committing credit card fraud, as well as many applications in the physical sciences such as filtering techniques and regression analysis. This talk will highlight some of the key concepts and modern tools of Machine Learning as well as present applications to selected Ocean Engineering systems such as the Mexican Blind Cave Fish.
