Applying to the Amgen-UROP Scholars Program
Thank you for your interest in the MIT Amgen-UROP Scholars Program. We are now accepting applications for the Summer 2010 program. The application deadline is February 2, 2010.
Please be

Applications will first be reviewed by a committee formed
specifically for the program. Further review will be
conducted by potential faculty mentors in the area of student
research interest.
Program Eligibility
Applicants to this program should:
- Be enrolled in a four-year college and universities in the U.S., Puerto Rico, or other U.S. Territory.
- Be a U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent resident
- Hold sophomore status (with 4 quarters or 3 semesters of college experience), junior status, or be a non-graduating senior planning to continue undergraduate studies in fall 2009
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above (based on a 4.0 scale)
- Be interested in pursuing graduate school, including a PhD or MD-PhD
Program Requirements
Students admitted to this program should:
- Agree to participate from June 7 to August 6, 2010,
on a full-time basis. Applications from students planning
not to be present for the whole of the nine-week program
will not be considered.
- Be prepared to participate in educational activities as offered, particularly the mid-summer research symposium in Los Angeles, CA, and the poster session and reception scheduled for the end of the program.
- To be eligible for the housing allowance all Amgen Scholars
must live on-campus in assigned housing at a designated
residence reserved specifically for Amgen Scholars.
Application and Admissions Requirements
Acceptance into the Amgen-UROP Scholars Program is based on several factors, including:
- Quality and Completeness of Application (including essay questions)
- Recommendations: An application for admission to the AMGEN UROP Scholars Program requires two evaluations; one should be from a faculty member who has advised you in research or taught you in a class. The second letter may be from an employer, supervisor or person known in a professional capacity who is qualified to address your specialized abilities. A recommendation from an academic advisor, college administrator, or faculty member familiar with your academic program, progress, and ability would also be acceptable for the second recommendation.
- Request to have your college or university send an official transcript to MIT. Official transcripts should be mailed directly from the issuing college. The Amgen-UROP Scholars Program mailing address is:

- Availability of Research Positions. Space in the program
is very limited, and MIT cannot guarantee that a research
position in your preferred research area will be available.

*The ROTC programs at MIT are operated under Department of Defense (DOD) policies and regulations, and do not comply fully with MIT's policy of nondiscrimination with regard to sexual orientation.
