STEM Administrative Staff
Shawna Young is the new executive director of the Office of Engineering Outreach Programs (OEOP) at MIT. Over the past year she has developed a close relationship with the OEOP as the instructor for the MITES Genomics Course and counselor for the SEED Academy Life Mastery course. At the same time, Shawna served as the administrator for the Diversity Initiative and Educational Outreach Program at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Before joining the Broad, Shawna worked at the Educational Development Center in curriculum development, and she also taught science for several years in North Carolina. Shawna received a BS in Chemistry from Howard University and MAT in Science Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Shawna has a great deal of experience working with students and helping them prepare for college and careers in science. She is really excited to share her expertise in her new role, as executive director of the office.
Ms. Erin Salius comes to MIT from Boston University where, in addition to pursuing a graduate degree in English, she taught undergraduate courses in literature and composition. In the summer of 2006, she joined the Office of Engineering Outreach as a Humanities Instructor for the MITES program. Soon after, began working full time with the office’s middle school outreach programs. In addition to running the STEM Program, Erin also manages the MIT Science of Baseball Program and MIT Insite, a engineering blog and dynamic social networking tool for middle schoolers which debuted in late fall, 2008.
Eric is currently a junior at MIT, majoring in physics. In 2007, he worked for the STEM Summer Institute as a teaching assistant for Level II Physics. He has also volunteered for the past two years as a mentor in the program.
Sandy Tenorio joined the Office of Engineering Outreach Programs in November 2002 from the Headquarters of the Laboratory for Nuclear Science (LNS). In addition, Sandy is no stranger to undergraduate and pre-college student contact. Before joining LNS, she spent four years with the Department of Athletics with responsibility for the Intramural Sports Program and MIT Summer Day Camp. Mrs. Tenorio speaks Spanish fluently, and has a reputation for her warmth, efficiency and skill. |
