How will you change the world?
Start exploring the world changing discoveries of math, science and engineering with the MIT STEM Program! For five weeks during the summer, promising students from Boston, Cambridge and Lawrence public schools who are entering the 6th, 7th, 8th or 9th grades will come together on MIT's campus to explore math, science and engineering. Rigorous college preparatory courses taught by MIT undergraduates combine exciting lectures, hands on projects and unique experiments help prepare students for academic success. Students also have the opportunity to learn a new racquet sport, explore labs and resources at MIT and meet other bright and talented students from local communities.
The learning doesn't end with the summer! The STEM Program offers students one-on-one mentoring during the school year as well as workshops for parents to support student's academic achievement.
How to Apply:
We are exited to be moving to an online application for the 2012 STEM Summer Institute. To complete your application you will need to complete an information request and obtain a user name and password through the application website at https://mit-oeop-admissions.symplicity.com. The system will help you request recommendation letters from you math and science teacher by using their e-mail address. You will also need scan and upload your report card information. Who's Eligible:
We have strict eligibility guidelines and accept students from Boston, Cambridge, and Lawrence public school students entering the 6th, 7th , 8th, or 9th grade. They must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. We look for talented students who, have a strong academic background and a strong desire to learn. We are very selective; just 22-25 students will be admitted per grade level. We encourage students from Title 1 schools to apply.
When:
The five-week summer program runs from July 2nd through August 3rd , 2012 with Orientation on Wednesday June 27th and closing ceremony on August 4th. Sessions are help on MIT's campus in Cambridge, MA, Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. All dates are MANDATORY.
Cost:
The program is offered free of charge to those students who are accepted and includes breakfast and lunch and bus transportation from select locations in Lawrence and Boston.

Level I: Algebra and Biology
Level II: Chemistry and Physics
Level III: Probability and Statistics & Vector Mechanics
Level IV: Robotics and Pre-calculus
