The career fair is intended to engage and connect companies with SMA Alumni and students. There will be representatives from companies who will discuss the positions they are looking to fill, provide their company background and information, and answer any questions you may have.

The invited companies have:

  1. Worked with SMA,
  2. Actively pursued and hired SMA alumni; and
  3. Are currently seeking to fill open positions in management, engineering, and business.

3M

3M Singapore

3M Singapore is a wholly owned subsidiary of 3M Company.  Established in 1966, 3M’s presence in Singapore today includes a Sales and Marketing office, the 3M Innovation Centre and the 3M Woodlands Plant.

3M Singapore markets nearly all of the company’s major products. In addition to serving its customers in Singapore, the company provides sales and support services to Bangladesh, Brunei, Myanmar, Nepal and Maldives.

The 3M Innovation Centre employs about 85 research and development professionals and laboratory engineers.  With state-of-the-art facilities and capabilities, they are able to pursue new products and engage in customer technical support, product design and customisation, application research, process enhancement and engineering support.

The 3M Woodlands Plant incorporates state-of-the-art manufacturing technology for the fabrication of flexible circuits. Besides flexible circuits, the facility also manufactures sintered abrasive and electronic adhesive.

Locating in Singapore in the early 2008.  Hill-Rom is a producer of hospital equipment and furniture.  We have aggressive plans to hire engineers and scientists for this center, with about 20 personnel in the first year.  Total headcount after 5 years will be between 40-50 employees.  We are interested in hiring electrical, mechanical, software, and materials engineers.

Merck Sharp & Dohme Singapore

Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) Singapore is a wholly owned subsidiary of Merck & Co. Inc, a global research-driven pharmaceutical company dedicated to putting patients first. Merck Sharpe & Dohme is the name Merck uses for conducting its business outside the USA.

The MSD Singapore manufacturing facilities are located on 49 acres at the Singapore Tuas Biomedical Park.  With greater than S$1 Billion in capital investment, becoming operational in less than seven years, the site is unique in that it has state of the art multi-product capable facilities for manufacture of both Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and oral solid dosage forms (tablets).  The facility currently manufactures APIs and/or tablets for the following products, VYTORIN®/INEGY®, ARCOXIA® and ZOCOR®, which are approved and distributed in markets world-wide, contributing to greater than US$3 Billion in total sales.

MSD Singapore has been recognized as an industry leader, winning numerous external and corporate awards for Safety, Environment, Productivity and Employment Practices.  The facility currently employs approximately 300 highly skilled professionals.  With the ongoing installation of new solid-dosage manufacturing platforms and the manufacture and launch of products, the site is expected to grow to greater than 400 employees over the next three years.

Motorola

Motorola Electronics Pte Ltd (Singapore)

Established in 1973, Motorola's first facility in Singapore was a sales office with a total of six staff located in an office space at Mandarin Hotel.

Motorola Electronics Pte Ltd was incorporated in 1983, starting with a staff strength of 61 people building a single product. In 1985, Motorola moved into a permanent facility at Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 3 - the Motorola Excellence Centre (MEC) - housing its manufacturing operations and design centre for communication products. Situated next to MEC, the Motorola Innovation Centre (MIC) was opened in late 1994, housing other major Motorola business groups and corporate services.

Motorola Singapore was awarded Operational Headquarters status in 1993 by the Singapore Government, making it the OHQ that co-ordinates and supports its regional subsidiaries in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2003, Motorola was awarded the International Headquarters (IHQ) status to signify its continued commitment to Singapore. Today, Motorola Singapore employs over 2,500 people involved in High-end Manufacturing; Research and Development; Software Design; Marketing; Sales and Distribution; Integrated Supply Chain Management and various corporate functions such as Human Resources, Legal and IP Management, Training & Development, Information Technology, Treasury and Finance.

R&D Excellence

Innovation is at the heart of Motorola. In Singapore, our multidisciplinary group of engineers comes from several R&D centers that include the Singapore Design Center, the Motorola Software Group and the Customer Solutions Centre. Nearly 700 engineers and R&D professionals at Motorola Singapore contributes to the advancement of new products and technologies.

Singapore Design Centre (Mobile Devices)

Since its set-up in 1984, the Singapore Design Center has gained in-depth experience in developing a wide range of wireless communications products. These include two-way radios, wireless phones, data terminals, paging products and cable modems. It is now the Global Center of Excellence for mass-market GSM and 3G phones and focuses solely on the design and development of mobile phones.

The center is one of the few Motorola global R&D centers with a 3G team that is dedicated to the development of 3G handsets for regional and global markets. The team’s research engineers and design talents are engaged in mechanical and electrical engineering, and software development.

The Customer Solutions Centre (CSC)

Launched in December 2005, the CSC is responsible for the development of customized mobile phone solutions and applications specifically to meet the needs of customers and consumers across the High Growth Markets of Southeast Asia, India, Australia, Middle East and Africa. The CSC is the company’s third in Asia and ninth worldwide for Mobile Devices. Its regional charter includes product design and localization, technical support, product and program management, and development of software solutions.

Motorola Software Group-Singapore

The software center was established in 1995 and is focused on next-generation software technologies for telecommunications, broadband and semiconductor industries. It develops software for 2.5 and 3G cellular infrastructure systems; namely Radio Network Access, Base Station, Telecommunications Management Network and Intelligent Network. In addition, it actively participates in the development of software and applications for broadband devices and embedded operating systems for semiconductor devices. The software group is a Level 5 organization, the highest rating in the Software Engineering Institute's Capability Maturity Model (SEI-CMM®) for Software

PSA Singapore Terminals
