FSILG Resources | Contact Information | Staff

The Fraternity, Sorority, and Independent Living Group Office is responsible for advising the entire fraternity, sorority, and independent living group community (FSILG) at MIT. The purpose of the FSILG Office is to not only enhance the Greek life experience of the students at MIT but also be an advocate for fraternal principles and a proponent of the shared values that living-learning communities provide. As a component of the Department of Student Life Programs, the Fraternity, Sorority, and Living Group Office works to promote a cohesive community that values civic and social responsibility, mutual respect, and the growth and development of organizations and their members. FSILGs at MIT contribute positively to student life through programs and services provided to the Institute’s community.

The FSILG Office specifically advises the three umbrella Greek organizations and the umbrella organization for the Independent Living Groups (ILGs):

The FSILG Office staff serve as interactive liaisons between the Greek community and MIT, advocating for the needs of the community, ensuring their voice and concerns are heard. The office also promotes the positive qualities of Greek Life to the MIT community at large, including the administration, students and faculty. In addition, the FSILG Office assesses the leadership and developmental needs of the Greek community and provides appropriate educational programs regarding including member education, hazing, facility management, substance abuse, scholarship, and risk management.

In addition, most fraternities, sororities, and independent living groups have a core group of active alumni who have a regular role in house operation. The Association of Independent Living Groups (AILG) is the affiliation of those alumni house corporations. The AILG speaks for the FSILG alumni community and is formally organized with officers and standing committees on accreditation, on economic development, and on public affairs.
