Students may elect to complete a minor program in a field different from their area of concentration, or to qualify for doctoral study in a second doctoral program at MIT or Harvard. The minor program consists of a coherent sequence of three or more subjects, and may be selected from a broad range of areas, such as mathematics, cognitive science, or organic chemistry. Students who elect a minor program or a second qualification can postpone taking their concentration Oral examination by one academic term.
