Rules for Conducting Classes
Policies and rules governing the conduct of classes, including assignments and examinations, are summarized in Term Regulations, which is derived from Faculty Rules and Regulations. Please check the following sections for more detailed information.
- Reminders for the beginning of the term include information about academic honesty, prerequisite subjects, grading, confirmation of class times and assignments, and rules governing tests and academic exercises conducted outside scheduled class times.
- Reminders for the end of the term include end-of-term testing, end-of-term assignments for subjects with and without final exams, exercises after the last scheduled class, final exams, and excused absences from final exams.
Section 2.50 is the section of the Faculty Rules that covers assignments and examinations. Key sections are as follows:
- Section 2.52 (all students): regulations concerning final exams and excused absences from final exams
- Section 2.53: regulations that apply only to undergraduate students
- Section 2.54: regulations that apply only to graduate students
Asking students to vote on some deviation from the rules is not permissible. Instructors should contact exam-termregs@mit.edu with questions of interpretation or requests for exceptions to the regulations.
