Physics Graduate Student Orientation
Fall 2009

Welcome to MIT! We are pleased to welcome incoming graduate students
into our community and enthusiastic about the beginning of a new
term.
Please reference the central Admissions Office for detailed logistical information about
your arrival to and experience at MIT.
The Department of Physics Orientation schedule is listed below as a guide
to the start of the Fall Term, 2009. Please visit our Frequently
Asked Questions page for answers to common questions, and note
the following important items:
- Students should be on campus by Wednesday, August 26th to participate in initial Orientation activities. It is
required that all incoming students take Part I of the Physics
General Exam on Monday, August 31, 2009. Please recall that this first attempt at the exam is intended primarily for diagnostic purposes.
- If off campus housing
needs to be sought, students should arrive on campus at least
two weeks prior to the start of classes.
- International Graduate Students can visit the International Students Office website for helpful information including a section for incoming students.
- Please visit the Graduate
Student Council Orientation Schedule. You are encouraged to
attend these events in addition to the Physics Department's orientation
sessions.
- Practice General Exams are available here.
- If you have any questions, please contact the Department of Physics, Academic Programs.
