Research Fellows The PHRJ fellowships are aimed at professionals, academics and activists who are working at the intersection of human rights and other topics, and who wish to conduct in-depth research into social and natural sciences and engineering as they relate to human rights and justice issues. The PHRJ offers an ideal environment for interdisciplinary research and reflection on human rights issues, especially those at the forefront of global public policy. The fellowships are open to applicants of any nationality. Applicants from developing countries, women applicants and those working with disadvantaged and minority communities and social movements, are particularly encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will be provided with shared office space, access to a computer, and full access to MIT's libraries and other facilities. They will also enjoy access to MIT's distinguished and world-class faculty and researchers as well as to area schools (including Harvard, Tufts and Boston University). Fellows are expected to participate in the activities of the PHRJ (especially in the seminar series), interact with the MIT community, and present a paper on their research toward the end of their stay at MIT. The fee for the PHRJ Fellowship is $5,000/year. An application for fellowships should be sent to the PHRJ with the following documents. Successful applicants will be notified as soon as possible, usually within a couple of months: 1. a resume; 2. a title and a short description of the research project including the objectives, questions proposed to be studied, a workplan and methods, the relation of the research to existing knowledge, the possible impact of the research on the field and society at large, and an explanation of the personal qualifications of the applicant to carry out the project (not exceeding 10 double-spaced pages); and 3. three letters of recommendations from persons who are qualified to comment on the applicant's past, the importance of his/her current activities, intellectual and professional accomplishment and standing, potential for further advancement, and his/her capacity for research at an advanced level.
