About Panhel

Sororities were founded at MIT in the early 1980s to serve the growing female population at MIT. Over the past 25 years, we have grown our size and numbers to a total of 6 National Panhellenic Conference sorority chapters, and nearly 700 affiliated women on campus. Since then, women’s organizations have provided MIT students with lifetime memberships into values-based organizations which emphasize scholarship, sisterhood, service, and support for all women at MIT.

Now, Panhel unites sororities at MIT to support women’s presence and initiatives on campus. Apart from a governing body, Panhellenic is a forum in which sorority women can come together to coordinate community-wide events, communicate with the administration, and share resources. Faculty dinners, Women’s Professional Day, and the Undergraduate Female Leadership Conference are all examples of successful events that support and provide resources for Panhellenic women. Additionally, Panhel has in the past has positively make use of our status as the largest women’s group on campus: projects like the Women’s Guide at MIT and changes made to SafeRide schedules and buses are all examples of the influence Panhellenic women have had at MIT.
