MIT ID Card Photo Information

Information from Herff Jones regarding the class picture book and your MIT ID card is enclosed in this mailing. The Freshman Picture Book is a directory with photographs and information about all entering freshmen at MIT. Even if you choose not to purchase a copy, your photograph will appear with those of your classmates and will be used for your MIT ID.

MIT ID Card Information

MIT will provide your official MIT ID upon arrival. You must follow the explicit directions for the size and quality of photo that may be submitted. This photo will be your 4-year permanent ID. If you do not follow the instructions, a temporary ID card will be issued. You will then have to be processed through the Card Office for a new photo and permanent ID.

Please follow the explicit directions for the size and quality of photo that may be submitted that are listed on the Herff Jones site, namely:

  • Resolution should be at least 225 dpi
  • Image file format should be TIF, EPS, JPG, or GIF.
  • File name should not have any spaces and should not include apostrophes, commas, forward or backward slashes.(smithjohn.tif)
  • Image should be at least 85 x 117 pixels or 1 3/16 x 1 5/8 inches.
