Partners

Building mutually productive relationships.

Collaborations with our partners are multi-faceted and mutually beneficial. We share a strong commitment to educating technical and business leaders who can build productive alliances across national borders.

With internships and study-abroad opportunities, our host partners provide MIT students with pivotal personal and professional experiences. And many say that their organizations benefit just as much, because our students bring fresh perspectives, cutting-edge knowledge, and enthusiasm to their work. When their internships or study abroad experiences come to an end, everyone involved has undergone a degree of change.

Tangible transformations and benefits.

In addition to participating in student programs, a select group of multinational companies are invited to join the MIT-Japan Corporate Consortium. Every corporate partner relationship is customized to meet the specific needs of the consortium member. Members benefit from tailored access to MIT talent and information. In addition to internships, the program facilitates on-campus interviews and introductions to relevant professors. The program also works with member companies to increase their visibility on campus.

Consulting and Training

Target Seminars

"The MIT Japan Program has been a friend to 3M for many years. Their seminars have been eagerly attended by our employees in both the US and Japan. Most important, the advice and counsel received on cultural understanding to support collaborative technical efforts across the Pacific have benefited numerous projects. The service and support has been invaluable!"
— K.B., 3M Corporation

Our Japan East Asia Target Seminars are segmented and tailored to the needs of our sponsors. The MIT-Japan Program works with senior executives on critical issues like strategy. Program staff and affiliates also conduct formal seminars for engineers and managers on creating effective cross-border communication and global project teams. The goal of these seminars is to increase knowledge of the operations, technology, and cultural systems that have developed in Japan. This successful, time-tested seminar program also aims to increase the sponsor organization's effectiveness in dealing with Japanese partners, research organizations, and competitors.

Japan Target Seminars, a "basic training course" on Japan, can be held on site, via teleconferencing, or via satellite. Please contact Patricia Gercik for scheduling and further information.

Target Seminar topics include:

  • Cross Cultural Communication: Building Trust and Networks
  • Japanese Culture and History : Context for Understanding Japanese Business Culture
  • Negotiating with the Japanese: Managing Subsidiary, Supplier, and Customer Relations

Distance course on Japanese business practice

In 2000, the MIT-Japan Program launched a four-week distance education module on effective cross-cultural business practice using Japan as a case study. The four-week course prepares executives to build effective relationships and networks with their Japanese counterparts. We are currently working with a number of our sponsors to incorporate this model into their training initiatives. If you are interested to learn more about the course curriculum, please contact Patricia Gercik at 617-253-3142.
