Look at your life and work through an Indian lens.

An internship allows you to integrate your expertise in science, technology, or management with your knowledge of Indian language and culture. It also allows you to innovate for a much larger scale and much lower price point. By working in an Indian non-profit organization, Indian company, or Indian subsidiary of an American company, you gain both an Indian and an American perspective on the latest work happening in your field.

The MIT-India Internship Program is open to MIT undergraduate and graduate students as well as recent alumni. We offer three-month summer internships (June-August) or four- to twelve-month internships (after graduation or while enrolled in a Ph.D. program) in dozens of corporations and research institutions across India.

How it works.

  1. You apply to us.

    Send the following to the MIT-India coordinator before you schedule an interview (please send items 1, 2 and 3 together):

    1. completed online application form
    2. resume;
    3. one paragraph each on your skill set and interest and
    4. one letter of recommendation from an MIT faculty member (this can be sent AFTER your interview).
  2. Interview.

    Sit down with us and tell us your goals for an internship in India. We'll share with you the resources we have and discuss possibilities and requirements.

  3. We apply to our partners.

    We forward your details to specific partners and organizations we think will be interested.

  4. Review the host's proposal.

    Once the company or research center selects you as a potential candidate, we connect you to them to discuss a mutually agreeable project.

  5. Reach agreement.

    You and your host institution reach an understanding about the details of the proposed internship.

  6. Prepare for travel.

    We provide you with the following resources:

    • round trip airfare, which you arrange through our travel agent
    • guidance on how to apply for your visa;
    • standard MIT “Risk and Release” form (sign and return);
    • additional health insurance coverage for your stay in India (submit form directly to IMG);
    • $100 towards your preventative medications (anti-malaria etc.);
    • modest housing through your host in India; and
    • a stipend.
  7. Provide feedback.

    When you return from your internship, you MUST complete an Internship Report that provides feedback on what worked and what didn't. We will evaluate the program from both the student's and the company's perspectives.

    On return you also need to do the following:
