Look at your life and work through a German lens.
An internship allows you to integrate your expertise in science, technology, or management with your knowledge of German language and culture. By working in a German research institution, German company, or German subsidiary of an American company, you gain both a German and an EU perspective on the latest work happening in your field. The program also has partners in Austria and Switzerland.
The MIT-Germany Internship Program is open to MIT undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent alumni. We offer three-month summer internships (June-August) or six- to twelve-month internships (after graduation or while enrolled in a Ph.D. program) with many corporations and research institutions across Germany.
How it works.
-
Interview.
Complete the online application form. Then sit down with us and tell us your goals for an internship in Germany. We'll share with you the resources we have at our disposal and discuss possibilities and requirements.
-
Apply.
We forward your resume, statement of purpose, transcripts, and letters of recommendation from professors or previous employers to organizations we think will be interested.
-
Review the host's proposal.
Once the company or research center selects you as a potential candidate, it will send you a short project proposal for your evaluation.
-
Reach agreement.
You and your host institution reach an understanding about the details of the proposed internship, including stipend and travel support.
-
Work with us.
We facilitate logistics — visa, internship agreement, residency permit — and work closely with company representatives during your internship. (See Practical info)
-
Provide feedback.
When you return from your internship, let us know what worked and what didn't. We will evaluate the program from both the student's and the company's perspectives.
