About Morris Dancing |
|
Morris dancing is a form of English traditional dance. Its origins are lost in the mists of time, but "The Morrice" was considered ancient in Shakespeare's time. The dances survived in rural England, to be recorded and spread by 19th century folklorists, and are now performed by enthusiasts in every corner of the English-speaking world. The dances we perform are from village traditions of the Cotswold region. Traditionally the Morris was danced to celebrate the changing seasons and believed to ensure growth, good harvest, and luck to all. |
