Registration Changes
This page contains information about the procedures for helping your advisees adjust their fall term registrations, including:
Switching recitations or sections within a subject
If a student is assigned to a recitaiton section that doesn't fit his/her schedule, it is very common and fairly easy to change recitation sections, e.g., moving from one 18.01 recitation to another. Each department controls this process for their departmental subjects.
See the Registrar's Office site for instructions on changing recitations in Science Core subjects, or go to the subject's home page for information.
- Note that students do not need to use an Add/Drop form or get your signature to switch recitations.
- However, if a student is switching from one version of a subject to another, e.g., from 8.012 to 8.01, from 18.022 to 18.02, then the student must fill out and submit an Add/Drop form and get your signature.
Adding Subjects
Dropping Subjects
Drop Date is WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 18: The instructor's signature is not required to drop a subject, but encourage the student to notify their instructor or TA of the drop; this helps with grade sheets at the end of the term.
Checking WebSIS
While students are responsible for making sure that their registration is up to date, you should also check their statuses of registration on WebSIS regularly throughout the semester to make sure that they are correctly registered.
Late Registration Changes
Students who miss either Add or Drop Date and need to add and/or drop subjects late from their registrations must petition the Committee on Academic Performance (CAP). Petitions are available in the Office of Undergraduate Advising & Academic Programming, 7-104. Petitions to add or drop a subject late are not automatically approved; those that are approved are subject to a $40 processing fee.
