Assisting Advisees with Choice of Major
Choosing a major is an important decision your advisees will be making this spring, so they may already be thinking about classes within majors and weighing their choices. Use your associate to assist you and your advisees at this pivotal time.
By April 16, 2010, all freshmen must either declare a major or declare themselves to be Undesignated Sophomores. You will receive further information and a Course Selection (Choice of Major) form for each advisee in late March.
The Exploring the Majors section of the Class of 2013 site contains extensive information on majors and minors at MIT, including department profiles, advice from upperclassmen and more.
In the meantime, please encourage advisees to attend the Exploring The Majors Fair on Monday, October 26, from 3-5 pm in Kresge Lobby.
If you are teaching a Freshman Advising Seminar on Monday afternoons, this is an opportunity to walk your whole group over to Kresge Lobby.
The Exploring the Majors Fair is a unique opportunity for students to learn firsthand about all the possibilities available in specific majors. The fair also provides an opportunity for your advisees to talk with students, staff, and faculty.
