Resources
Without good resources nothing is very easy to understand. MIT has more then enough resources to give you the information you need to make a choice of major. Please look through this list of offices and web sites and discover why they are important to know.
- IAP- This is a great way to test a lot of different majors to see if you like them. During IAP you can take classes for credit or for fun. IAP is not as academically heavy as other parts of the school year. Learn to scuba and you might just take an ocean engineering class. Take chemistry class that deals with cooking and you might get hooked on course 5. There are hundreds of classes to choose from.
- UROP- The UROP office helps you to learn about a department by working on a research project alongside faculty and graduate students in labs and offices all over campus. This is a great hands on experience.
- Global Education and Career Development Center-The GECDC offers a variety of career-counseling resources for students, from individual meetings with career counselors to organized career workshops and other events, check out what GECDC has to offer and see the Majors & Careers page for additional information.
- UAAP- The UAAP handles Advising, Orientation, Exploring the Majors programming(Exploring the Majors Fair, info sessions, etc.), UROP, IAP program coordination, and more.
- Student activities- These are the folks on campus who want you to have fun. Many of their activities free and encourage group participation and leadership building skills that will help you meet other students with questions just like yours.
- International students office- Just because you are not an international student doesn’t mean that you can’t receive valuable information from this office. DO you want to know about working in other countries? Internship opportunities over seas? This is the office that can get you connected.
- OME (Office of Minority Education)
