RIGHT NOW

The "Right Now" section will be revised frequently throughout the academic year with up-to-the-minute information to help you progress through your first year at the Institute.

Currently, this section focuses on what you need to know as you prepare to meet with your advisor during Orientation to register for your Fall subjects.

Starting August 19:  Don't forget to check your Online Freshman Advising Folder to confirm AP scores, review testing results that may affect your choice of fall subjects and find out the name of your advisor.

  • Orientation: Freshman Orientation begins on Saturday, Augut 23. Follow this link to the Orientation website where you can find complete information on what to expect when you arrive on campus.

  • Advanced Standing Exams: Information on the Advanced Standing Examinations offered during Orientation, including exam dates and registration deadlines.

  • Placement Exams: Details on the Freshman Essay Evaluation (FEE) and the Math Diagnostic for Physics Placement, plus advice on how to interpret your results.

  • Fall Registration Instructions: How you and your advisor will fill out your registration form; how to add a HASS-D and other subjects; registration deadlines.

  • Investigate Your Academic Options during Orientation: Make the most of Orientation to learn more about your first-year academic options.

  • First-Year Subjects: Information on the General Institute Requirement subjects that you will take as a freshman.

  • First-Year Grading & Credit Limits: Information on freshman credit limits and grading policies.

  • Balance Your Schedule: Advice on selecting the right balance of subjects during your first semester.

  • Advanced Placement Credit: How AP scores may give you MIT credit and, where appropriate, advanced subject placement.

  • International Examination Credit: How international exam results may give you MIT credit and, where appropriate, advanced subject placement.
