Frits Pil, University of Pittsburgh assistant professor and research scientist, accepted the Young Scholar award from the Industrial Relations Research Association at their Annual Meeting in San Diego on Jan. 4, 2004.

This award recognizes the strength and impact of Pil's academic research in the international arena. Much of their work included IMVP-sponsored projects, including research on assembly plants; industrial relations in the auto sector; social capital research; product design; and the forthcoming book, The Second Century: Reconnecting Customer and Value Chain through Build-to-Order, which he co-authored with Matthias Holweg The book is scheduled to be published by MIT Press in June.

Pil, long associated with IMVP - the first Sloan Industry Center established by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, joins a long line of Sloan centers' scholars to win this award.
