Sloan Professor Michael A. Cusumano, an International Motor Vehicle Program principal investigator in the 1990s, has joined the IMVP leadership team as co-director, working with Co-Director John Paul MacDuffie, Wharton Associate Professor. Cusumano's IMVP work focused on suppliers and product development - specifically platform development. CTPID Director Fred Moavenzadeh, who served as acting co-director, has stepped down.

Cusumano, the Sloan Management Review Distinguished Professor of Management, specializes in strategy and technology management in the computer software industry, as well as automobiles and consumer electronics. He teaches courses on strategic management and the software business and he has served as editor-in-chief and chairman of the MIT Sloan Management Review.

A prolific author, Cusumano's books include Platform Leadership: How Intel, Microsoft, and Cisco Drive Industry Innovation (2002); Thinking Beyond Lean: How Multi-Project Management is Transforming Product Development at Toyota and Other Companies (1998), Microsoft Secrets, (1995); and The Japanese Automobile Industry: Technology and Management at Nissan and Toyota (1985). His latest book, The Business of Software, is forthcoming in early 2004.
