The Spaulding Award
The Spaulding Award is presented to an MIT Center for Real Estate graduate whose work in industry has enriched the profession and/or who has demonstrated involvement in the community through service or leadership. The award is given periodically, approximately every other year.
Created to honor the leadership, energy, and vision of Center founder Hank Spaulding, the award was established in June, 1991 when he became Chairman Emeritus of the Center. As Spaulding himself said in presenting the award to its first recipient, Sarah Abrams, "The winner of this award should not only be successful at what she does, but also should do it in a way that brings honor to the enterprise."

- Randy Nichols '89, for the
development of Clayton Lane, a complex mixed-use
development in Denver, CO. The project features
a J.W. Marriott hotel, 1,600 parking spaces,
180,000 square feet of existing retail space,
and 490,000 square feet of new retail, residential,
and office construction (awarded 10/1/04

- Patrick Kennedy '85, for developing affordable/market housing and mixed-use in no-growth Berkeley (awarded 12/1/97 at the Fall Members Meeting).
- William Browning '90, for founding the Green Development Services at the Rocky Mountain Institute (awarded 11/28/95 at the Fall Members Meeting).
- Robert Anthonyson '86, for managing the development of Boston's Post Office Square Park (awarded 11/15/94 at the 10th Anniversary Dinner).
- Sarah Abrams '85, for managing the rehab and creation of SRO units for the Cambridge YWCA (awarded 12/1/92 at the Fall Members Meeting).
The Next Spaulding Award Winner
Only graduates of the MIT MSRED program are eligible for the award. Nominations may be made by any graduate of the MSRED program, (yes, you can nominate yourself) or by a colleague who is very familiar with the work cited.
