Scholarships

Scholarships generally provide financial aid as either a one-time or a renewable award.


ANS Graduate Scholarship
  • Description: Twenty-nine graduate scholarships are available for full-time graduate students in a program leading to an advanced degree in nuclear science, nuclear engineering, or a nuclear-related field.

James R. Vogt Radiochemistry Scholarship
  • Description: For an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in or proposing to undertake research in radio-analytical chemistry or analytical chemistry or analytical applications of nuclear science.

Robert A. Dannels Memorial Scholarship
  • Description: For a graduate student in a program leading to an advanced degree in nuclear science, nuclear engineering, or a nuclear-related field. Nomination of handicapped persons is encouraged.

  • Description: For a graduate student in a program leading to an advanced degree in nuclear science, nuclear engineering, or a nuclear-related field.

  • Description: For students pursuing graduate studies in the field of reactor physics or radiation transport.

John Randall Scholarship
  • Description: For students pursuing graduate studies in the areas of science and engineering related to the nuclear fuel cycle and radioactive waste management.

  • Description: For students pursuing graduate studies in material science and technology for nuclear applications.

IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society Graduate Scholarship Award
  • Description: Recognizes contributions by graduate students to the fields of Nuclear and Plasma Sciences. Awarded based on evidence of scholarship such as academic record, reports, presentations, publications, research plans, related projects and related work experience.

Fellowships

Fellowships generally provide a pre-determined amount of financial assistance towards graduate tuition and/or stipend for a fixed period of time. Fellowships may require research or practicum commitments.


Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship
  • Description: Program provides benefits and opportunities to students pursuing a Ph.D. in areas of high-energy density physics, low-energy nuclear science or properties of materials under extreme conditions. Fellows also participate in research at a DOE laboratory.
  • Status: Students must apply in their first or second year of study
  • Citizenship: US Citizen or permanent resident
  • Award: Yearly stipend of $32,400, payment of all tuition/fees, $1000 yearly academic allowance

Computational Science Graduate Fellowship Program
  • Description: DOE fellowship for graduate students working toward a Ph.D.
  • Status: Students must apply in their first or second year of study

Nuclear Engineering and Health Physics Fellowship
  • Description: DOE fellowship for graduate students pursuing a master's or doctoral degree in nuclear engineering or health physics
  • Practicum: A three month practicum at a DOE facility is required

  • Award: Tuition plus $1,700 per month stipend

Radioactive Waste Management Graduate Fellowship
  • Description: DOE fellowships for graduate work in fields related to the management of spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive wastes; application is usually made before or during the first year of graduate school

Fusion Energy Sciences Fellowship Program
  • Description: DOE fellowship to engage in the study and research of fusion energy sciences and technology, while fostering practical work experiences at recognized research facilities.

  • Description: DHS fellowship for graduate students pursuing a doctoral or master's degree with a thesis requirement in the physical sciences, or engineering.

  • Description: Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory fellowship for entering graduate students.

Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships
  • Description: Open to Alaska Natives (Eskimo or Aleut), Black/African Americans, Mexican Americans/Chicanas/Chicanos, Native American Indians, Native Pacific Islanders (Polynesian/Micronesian), Puerto Ricans working toward a Ph.D. or holding post doctoral appointment.

Stanford University Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) Fellowships
  • Description: CISAC sponsors fellowship programs which, through an annual competition, select a small number of scholars for training in issues related to international security.

Advanced Fuel Cycle Initiative University Fellowship Program
  • Description: The Advanced Fuel Cycle Initiative/Generation IV University Fellowship Program (AFCI-UFP) provides up to eighteen months of financial support to nuclear science and engineering students pursuing master's degrees in topic areas that support the AFCI/Gen IV program.
