The Past is Prelude: A conversation with IPCC Lead Authors

Several prominent academic leaders will consider the question “Is it too late?” Is it within our ability to manage the risks of climate change and future water problems? Is academia able to step beyond its traditional role to undertake more cross-disciplinary work on sustainability? Together the panelists will present an amplified vision of future challenges and the steps needed to deal with them before it is too late.

Improving Our Impact: Challenges to research universities from industry, government & civil society

In meeting the sustainability challenge, every societal sector has a need for new knowledge and methodological insights. In this panel, representatives from various sectors will reflect on particular issues they face in contributing to sustainability and on how interactions with research universities can help them to more effectively fulfill their role. Their conversation will set the stage for the parallel sessions that follow.

Sustainability for All: The implications of new pathways for the developing world

The aim of this panel is to engage voices from the developing world in articulating challenges from, and emerging responses to, issues of scale and time that are prominent in, or distinctive to, these regions. Panelists from the AGS schools and their partners from the developing world will share their experiences in working together to address some of these challenges. What are the obstacles? What methods work well? How can working with organizations such as the AGS help to make a difference?
