Poster guidelines
A poster session and competition will be held during the AGS Annual Meeting, 28-31 January 2008. Poster abstracts are welcome from all annual meeting attendees, and especially from AGS investigators, who are invited to report their latest research results and educational and outreach activities towards global sustainability. A special invitation is extended to students at the four AGS universities to showcase their work. Accepted abstracts will be offered a slot in the poster session.

Poster Abstract Submission Instructions
Prospective authors are requested to submit their poster abstracts electronically by 26 October 2007. Abstracts will be accepted in three broad areas: (1) related to the key questions in the AGS Energy or the Food and Water flagship programs, (2) of general relevance to global sustainability, and (3) related to educational aspects of sustainability. The posters should also address one or more of the challenges: “at scale, in time, for all”. The text should be written in English and the document submitted as a .pdf document in the format of the Poster Template provided. Submissions should be made to Karen Gibson.
The key questions related to the flagship programs are:
Energy Flagship: Pathways to a Sustainable Energy Future
- What are the key technologiesand systems for pathways to sustainable energy systems?
- What are the politicalactions and decisions, both nationally and internationally, that will berequired for different pathways?
- What are the possibilitiesand obstacles for different pathways to be accepted by society?
Food and Water Flagship: Secure Ecosystem Services for a Nourished World
- Which social and technicalinnovations can promote pathways to a nourished world?
- How will the needs anddemands of the global population affect near-term pathways (5-15 years)?
- What are the global food and water ecosystemservices, where are they located, and what are the limiting factors andrisks?
Notification of Acceptance
Contributions will be reviewed for relevance, quality, and adherence to instructions. Authors will be notified of acceptance/non-acceptance by 16 November 2007. Authors selected to present their posters during the AGS Annual Meeting should prepare a full size version of their poster (4’x4’).
Poster Registration and Set-up
Authors should register their poster at the conference registration desk Tuesday morning, 29 January 2008. Each poster will be assigned a numbered panel in the display area in the lobby of the Stata Center where the conference will take place. The size of one panel is 4 feet x 4 feet (approx. 120 cm x 120 cm), and posters should not exceed this size. Participants viewing the posters should be able to read the content from a distance of about 5 feet (approx. 1.5 m). The recommended poster font/text size is 120pt for the Title, 70pt for Headings, and 50pt for Text. Poster content, text and color graphics must be prepared as one poster and printed on recyclable paper (if possible). Display panels and poster pins will be provided by the organizers of the poster session.
Poster Sessions
Authors are requested to be present during the special sessions for poster viewing and presentation, allowing for interaction with the meeting participants attending the display. The two formal poster viewing sessions will take place on Tuesday, 29 January during lunch and at the evening reception on the same day.
Best Poster Awards
During the poster viewing session, a jury including representatives from MIT, ETH, UT, and Chalmers, will evaluate the posters. Best posters will be selected and the winners notified Tuesday evening. The winners of the best poster award will be announced at lunch on Wednesday, 30 January, at which time the winners will be asked to give a brief oral presentation explaining their poster (NO POWERPOINT SLIDE WILL BE NECESSARY).
Poster Removal
No later than 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, 31 January all posters should be removed from the panels. All posters or other materials left in the poster area after this time will be recycled.
