Research Interests
Kazutaka Mitobe, Ph.D. was a Research Scientist at the MIT AgeLab, on leave from Akita University in Japan, where he is a assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He specializes in biomedical engineering such as human motion analysis and psychophysical experiments to develop the new assist devices that respond to the demands of older adults. He has published in scientific journals dealing with cognitive psychology, biomedical engineering, human factors engineering.
In the AgeLab, Dr. Mitobe studied older adults' oversight in a peripheral vision. He created the 'head mounted peripheral display: HMPD' that can display a side scene to the peripheral vision. Using the HMPD and a driving simulator, he made clear that older adults infrequently ignored a car in their peripheral vision when they were driving a highway.
Dr. Mitobe holds an MA and a Ph.D. in Engineering from Hokkaido University. He is a member of the IEEE, the IEICE, the IEE of Japan, the Japanese society for medical and biological engineering and the Society of Materials Engineering for Resources of Japan. |
