New Transporation Technology for Older People

September 23-24, 2003

In collaboration with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics AgeLab hosted the OECD Working Group on Human Factors of Transport Technology for Older Persons International Symposium New Transportation Technology for Older People, September 23-24, 2003 at MIT.

Sponsored by The Hartford Financial Services Group and the New England University Transportation Center, the symposium engaged transportation and aging researchers, policy makers, transportation planners, the automobile and insurance industries, public transportation and other stakeholders interested in the nexus between transportation technology and mobility in an aging society. Drawing upon participants from over a dozen nations, the international symposium examined the mobility demands of older people, the promise of new technologies for the car, transit, other developing modes and platforms, as well as the human factors and policy challenges associated with integrating new transportation technology and older people.
