Longer healthier lives are quickly becoming an expectation of growing older in America. But what about mental or cognitive health? Older adults frequently articulate that they fear death and physical disability less than they fear loss of clear mental and cognitive function. Can we expect to reach our later years with mental sharpness and vitality? As they anticipate longer life, many proactive individuals are seeking strategies to take control and promote their own ‘brain health.’
The MIT AgeLab, in partnership with The Hartford, hosted an informative and provocative discussion of brain health. Paul Nussbaum, Ph.D. described the rapidly expanding understanding of the human brain and its potential in Building a Brain to Last a Lifetime.
Dr. Nussbaum is a noted neuropsychologist , researcher, author of multiple books and frequent speaker on the topic of cognitive function and health and wellness across the lifespan. An expert in neuroanatomy and human behavior, he has published over 50 peer reviewed articles, books, and chapters within the scientific community. He is a national and international lecturer on aging, dementia and related disorders, health and wellness across the lifespan and the lifestyle necessary to maximize successful aging and disease prevention.
