AgeLab researcher Dr. Bryan Reimer presented his paper "Young Adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): The impact of secondary tasks on driving performance" at the Driving Simulation North America Conference in Iowa City. Dr. Reimer’s research concluded certain types and complexity of secondary tasks, when combined, in specific driving situations can exploit deficiencies in an ADHD driver's performance. In addition, results of the study indicated context plays an important roll in the allocation of an ADHD driver’s attention and ADHD drivers appear to be drawn to high-demanding situations at the expense of safety. As part of a larger MIT AgeLab and New England University Transportation Center initiative investigating the impact of medical disorders on driver performance, this research was conducted in collaboration with the clinical research staff in the Pediatric Psychopharmacology Research Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital Department.
