Your advisees value your knowledge, advice, and experience and want to make a connection with you beyond discussion about which classes to register for.  At the same time, they may feel intimidated about approaching you, perhaps hesitant to impose on your time.  Maybe you are also unsure about how to open up the conversation with your advisees beyond the narrow concerns of getting through the departmental and Institute requirements.
