Salt Island

Location: Gloucester, MA
Exposure
: southeast
Depth: 15-40'
Entry: sandy

Description

Salt Island is located just off Good Harbor Beach, one of the nicest beaches on the north shore. Salt island varies from about 50 yards offshore at low tide to about 350 yards offshore at high tide, so the swim can be a long one! The offshore side of the island slopes down with rocky boulders to a sandy bottom with a maximum depth of 40 feet. There is a nice variety of sea life in the rocks. Parking costs $15 at Good Harbor Beach during weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day, so make sure you enjoy the beach after you dive.

Directions from Boston

  • Take 93 north or route one north to 128 north (Gloucester/Rockport)
