SIGNATURES AND STATEMENTS
Signatures and supporting statements are required from various
Institute personnel to help the Committee come to a fuller understanding
of a student's situation. Supporting statements should confirm
the signer's understanding of the situation, and indicate his
or her level of support for the request.
Gathering Support
It can sometimes be difficult to reach those people whose support
is required on a petition in person. In these cases, it is acceptable
to send an email describing your request to the individual in
question, and ask that person to send a note of support directly
to cap-help@mit.edu. Email
of this kind must be received by the CAP directly from
the person giving the statement; no forwards will be accepted
from the petitioning student. If you choose to do this, please
note on the form that email support is arriving separately, and
submit your petition to 7-104.
Substitute Signers
The CAP will accept substitute signatures and statements from
a specific group of people. These individuals must both have permission
to sign for the individual in question, and must be in a position
to comment knowledgably on the petition:
The CAP will occassionally table
a petition, pending receipt of additional information that a substitute
signer cannot provide.
Petitioning When You are Away From Campus
Students can submit petitions when they are away from campus
