Tutoring
We
usually need about 5-7 tutors per course. You will be "on call"
if the students need you to answer questions and explain the material
to them. Your job will be to give them one-on-one attention for a
longer time than the TAs can. In the past, the students have found
the tutors enormously valuable. The
students would contact you in any of three ways:
- Your name and e-mail address will be in the course handout
and on the Faculty and Staff webpage of the class. You arrange
to meet at a mutually convenient time.
- A student wanting a tutor tells a TA, who tells the instructor,
who sends an e-mail to the tutors.
- The tutors run open tutoring sessions (scheduled by the instructors)
before exams. There are 4 two-hour tutoring sessions over the
semester.
Most students need only one-time help, although
some are ongoing throughout the term. Most terms, the average workload
is 3-4 hr/wk, with some weeks busier (usually around the first problem
set and the first exam) and some weeks slower. Pay is $7.90/hr (subject
to change).
Grading
In general, we look for fall graders during
the summer and decide in late August;
for the spring, we look during the fall term and and decide in late
January.

How to Apply
If you are interested in either position, please email the instructor
of the class (email available on the Faculty and Staff page of the
specific class) with the following information:
- Your name, year, major, and phone number.
- Bio and chem courses you've taken, and those you will be taking
next term.
- UROP supervisor, if you have one (and/or other reference person,
preferably at MIT)
- Describe any teaching experiences you may have had - but don't
worry if you haven't - this is not a requirement.
- Will you be here during IAP? If not, please provide your other
address and phone number.
